Sew Caroline-Weekend Style

Weekend-Style-Blog-Tour-FBHope you all had an amazing weekend and are getting ready for fireworks tomorrow. How did you spend your weekend? I spent mine photographing 3 tops made from Sew Caroline’s new book, Weekend Style.

S9144SIA

Caroline’s new book is filled with top patterns, dress  patterns, shorts patterns, bag patterns and even accessories patterns like a headband and tie belt. This fresh, bright sewing book is full of weekend style patterns. So what is a weekend style? Well to me it is laid back and comfy (but cute, of course!).  But you also want to ready for date night and this book covers all baseses. Several of the patterns can be glammed up for date night with the right fabric.

So what did I choose to sew? Oh man, that was a hard decision. I went back and forth for weeks! Seriously, I could not make up my mind because I wanted to make everything! I ended making the Larchmont Tee. Why? Well I needed more tops in my closet.  HA! It was just as simple as that! This tee and all the patterns in the book are great for a confident beginner to master.  🙂anewEH4A8787.jpg

(Fabric: Sew Caroline and Art Gallery Fabric Corollas Ashen)

Larchmont Tee is a dolman style top with a blousy feel.

So here is the thing with this tee, it is a bit addicting! I sewed up one in about 45 mins and tried it on and LOVED it. So I grabbed two more fabrics I have been wanting to sew with and made 3 total tees under 3 hours!

Cricut Blog Tour and Giveaway

Blog post in partnership with Cricut.

Welcome,

I have a HUGE blog post for you AND A HUGE GIVEAWAY!!!!!!!! Today I am joining several seamstresses to present to you the Cricut Explore Air 2.  This is my first experinece with Cricut or a machine like this so I pretty much jumped when given the chance at playing with the Criut Explore Air 2. I think the hardest part of this machine was figuring out what to do! There are so many options that you can easily get lost in the Design Space.

aanewEH4A8944aanewEH4A8908Speaking of Design Space I highly suggest setting up your account as soon as you get your machine. You will really want to start designing now! I had a very hard time narrowing down my project for today’s blog. I finally decided on making my daughter a t-shirt design for her 13th birthday along with a free hand appliqué  on a skirt.

Here is what I did…

  1. Start designing!!! I spent hours on the Design Space Website playing with ides. Choosing vinyl colors for the project and other details like font style, size, placement, etc. Promise this was the hardest part! LOL!! So many amazing designs! aanewEH4A1543
  2. Once you finalize your design on design space it’s time to set up the machine. It is Super easy!!  After turning it on, plug it into your computer or use the bluetooth on your cell  phone if you are designing off the Cricut app. Place the Vinyl on a mat with shiny side down (which is also the clear liner). If your design is small cut down the vinyl before placing on the mat.aanewEH4A1536aanewEH4A0641
  3. Open the Air 2 and slide the mat in. Move the smart set dial to IRON -ON or right between IRON-ON AND CARDSTOCK if you are using iron-on glitter.  Then press GO on the Design Space and watch the magic happen!!! ***Make sure you click mirror image BEFORE cutting.
  4. Once it is done, slide it out of the machine and grab your wedding tool.  The wedding tool will help take out the excess vinyl from the backing. Take off any excess iron-on around the design by peeling it from the clear lining. The is a great time to get the kids involved!!! aanewEH4A0623aanewEH4A0681aanewEH4A0687
  5. I knew I wanted to free hand the collage on the skirt so I cut each design separate. Don’t trim the clear liner too close as you will need some left to be able to grab and peel off after its ironed on??? If you don’t want to free hand a pattern you can weld (merge) design so that they are printed all together on the Design Center. This video can help.aanewEH4A0707aanewEH4A0715
  6. I then laid my designs for the skirt on the fabric with clear liner side up and played with how I wanted them to be grouped. I layered a few pieces on top of each other so that the floral collage looked like a continues flow. While I was playing around with placement I ended up changing my mind on the color of the flowers. But this was an easy fix. Just grabbed the right color of vinyl and cut the flowers out again.  Once I was happy with the placement I removed any pieces that sat on top of the first layer. Tip: If you’re not using the app and your working away from your computer screen, take a cell phone pic for reference so you remember how it should look. aanewEH4A0728aanewEH4A0766
  7. Use a hot iron on Cotton/Linen and a press cloth, and iron the designs to the fabric.  Very important to use a press cloth and NO steam. Press each area down for 20-30 seconds. Repeat with reverse side of your fabric. Once it has cooled check a corner to see if all is secure. If it is then you are golden but if it is not press again for 15-20 more seconds.  aanewEH4A0777aanewEH4A0781aanewEH4A0782
  8.  For my project I was not done yet. I still had a few pieces that needed to be layered on top of the first layer. I repeated step 8 with the second layer. aanewEH4A0787
  9. Boom done!!!

For the my T-shirt design I did used the same technique.

Tips:

  1. What helped me the most when deciding where to place the wording is I had my daughter put the tank top on and I pinned the iron-on in place.  This way I could step back and look before committing with the iron.aanewEH4A0791
  2. Cut your project out in cardstock before using up your precious iron-on.  I used cardstock first and that helped me to decide on what size I wanted to use on the tank top.
  3. Check out more Iron-on projects to help you narrow down your project! See more HERE.
  4. Watch this video!
  5. Don’t be scared! Have funnnn!!!

Here is my final design all together…

Fiesta Fun Blog Tour

Fiesta Fun pics - 1

I hope you all have had a fantastic week so far! So this is one exciting blog tour. If you have not been following, get caught up now on  Dana’s Blog or Instagram! Ok, did you get caught up? Pretty amazing right?!!! Now, I get to share my project…

Dana’s second collection with Art Gallery Fabrics, it just as fun, vibrant and summery as her  first, Boardwalk Delight. I mean Piñata Confetti is begging to be used in party decorations! I actually used Mexican Dress Midnight and Piñata Confetti together for AGF lookbook for Fiesta Fun.

ANEWEH4A8557

I have been waiting to use Citrus Sunrise since Dana made this ADORABLE outfit for her daughter. I mean isn’t it the most ridiculously cute outfit you have ever seen??!!!  I love the freshness of the fabric print. Is that a thing? Well it is in my head! lol

ANEWEH4A8571

Cassie and I meet up at a local Nursery for a afternoon of pics, berry pie and homemade lemonade. Oh and BBQ dinner! When Cassie and I did our first photoshoot for the Fiesta Fun lookbook  we traveled to San Diego and took pictures at the Spanish Village. This Nursery brought a totally different backdrop to the photos.

She brings a mix of soft corals, greens, blues and pink, creating a serene palette. Funny thing is the serene color palette is just like her personality, easy to talk with, super sweet and beautiful inside and out!

Sue from Needle in a Fabric Stash and I teamed up for the last day of the tour. She made not 1, not 2 but 3 Bountiful Bags!! Check out her blog for all the low down on the beautiful bags she stitched up. I feel pretty lucky to be able to team up with her. She is a talented seamstress and a sweet friend (that just happens to own a fabric shop in town)!!

AANEWEH4A5759

So let’s chat really quickly on how I decided what project I would make for the Blog Tour. It all started with Sharon and Maureen’s Sewcial Bee Sample, they inspired me to make my first Quilt Block. Then I got a big head (blahahahaha) and thought hmmm, let take that Quilt Block and make a dress with it.

AAANEWEH4A6431

I choose their Flying Geese Block.  I will say though, next time I would place the flying geese straight down the middle of the bodice instead of down the sides like it is now.  I am a bit obsessed with the back and I do feel this is a very special dress. True labor of love!!!

Katarina Roccella- Blithe Blog Tour

aneweh4a9419How exciting and amazing have all of these creations been so far on the Blithe Blog Tour, right??!!! I am impressed and inspired by each one. One of these days I am going to let go of my fear of quilting and MAKE A QUILT! I don’t know how many times I hear from Quilters how scared they are to sew an article of clothing. I guess we all have our vices??
Anyways, today is mine and my sewing bestie Cassie’s day to share our creations for the Blithe Blog Tour!

Katarina has done it again (and again and again and again with Art Gallery Fabric)! She has such a passion and an eye for detail it is hard not to fall in love with each collection she releases. To me, Blithe encompass Natures’ beauty in Fall and Winter time. I can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve for your next collection!!

For the Blog Tour Cassie and I happen to be up in Big Bear at the same time so we decided what better place to do a photoshoot. Don’t worry kids, you can brave 30 degree weather for your Mothers crazy ideas. LOL
I prepped my daughter by showing her photos of Joyfolie models in the snow. I think it actually helped. Hehehehe #momfail

For the dress I used the Magnolia Dress from Little Lizard King. I used the knit in Bird Songs Sun.

Runway Skirt Blog Tour-Skirt Fixation

Hello Friday,

It is a super busy time of year so thank you for taking a moment to stop by!

Today is my day to share with you the Runway Skirt Pattern that Skirt Fixation just released!

Image Map

Oh and guess what?!!?? It is on SALE from now until the 10th!  And On top of an already great sale, you can sign up for a fab giveaway for 1 Runway Skirt Pattern and a $25 Urban Sew gift card.  See the Rafflecoptor link at end of the post.

aneweh4a6091-copy

The Runway Skirt features 3 skirt lengths; knee, midi and maxi. It really is such a comfortable skirt, thanks to the knit.  Also very stylish, thanks to the elegant godets. I had a goal during my “break” to make a few items for myself.  So far I have found that I suck at goals and I don’t know how to “take a break”!  I am really really really  grateful Aubrey asked me to join her blog tour so I could at least make one item for myself before the end of the year! LOL

aneweh4a6133

The pattern also comes in a large size range, 00-24, and I am wearing a size 2.  Sadly, I am not blessed with curves but I love the shape of the skirt and the godets which add flare and shape to my body. Wahoo!!! See more details on the pattern HERE.

aneweh4a6104

I used Art Gallery Fabric and Katarina Roccella Lavish Knit for the main body of the skirt and Art Gallery Denim for the godets. The pattern does call for a lighter weight fabric for the godet but I really wanted to add the denim so don’t tell on me ok! Hahahaha!

aneweh4a6087-copy

Aubrey did a wonderful job on the Runway Skirt tutorial and I can’t believe it is her first pattern! It is very well written and illustrated and so easy to follow. I would say if you are a confident beginner seamstress you can tackle this pattern!

Pat Bravo’s Heartland Blog Tour

Happy Friday and welcome to my stop on Pat Bravo’s Heartland Blog Tour. I am excited to share with you how I got to interpret Pat’s new collection. Heartland released in September and this will be her ? collection for Art Gallery Fabric.

heartland-tour-blog-banner

Yesterday , Mariana Diaz shared her Heartland creation and on today along with me,  Elina Temmes will be sharing her project! Be sure to check out these beautiful projects to  get some inspiration!

aneweh4a9256

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Heartland is inspired by the beauty of Scandinavia. I have to admit I had to sit and brain storm for a while and look to Pintrest for some Scandinavian inspiration. Other then Ikea (I know, very sad!) I did not know a ton about the Scandinavian style.  Pat has a great inspiration page on Pintrest.  So using that along with other research, I found some themes that come though loud and clear.  It is simple, fresh and minimalist.  Oh, and their beautiful landscapes! So for my photos I brought in the color red, landscapes, clean simple lines and of course I had to style my daughter’s hair up in braids. Too bad she does not have super blond hair, maybe a good dye job is in order. Just kidding! Hahahaha!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

aneweh4a9254

For my project I used:

Blomma Garden Pastiche in Voile and Unn Cross Pine in Cotton for the bodice. I have been obsessed with Voile lately! It is dreamy the way it moves and it is quite easy to sew with.

aneweh4a9115-copy

The dress pattern was made using the Emily pattern by Violette Field Threads.

aneweh4a9019-copy

See how the Voile has so much body and movement! Swoosh!!!

Hello Ollie by Going Home to Roost

Well hello , Hello Ollie!

hol-logo

Bonnie of Going Home to Roost released her latest collection in August and it is just as beautiful as all her other lines. This time she had done something a little different but so perfectly Bonnie, it is ORGANIC! This is Art Gallery Fabric’s very first Organic fabric line. How awesome is that!?!!agf-organics

————————————————————————–

Here is a little about Hello Ollie:

Like the delicate trace left by a Swan’s dance on the water, this collection illustrates the image of spending an afternoon in the meadow by the lake. Named after Bonnie’s daughter, Ollie, sweetness is brought to life with dabbling swans, feathered fellows and garden blooms.

Explore the collection deeper: the collection | the lookbook | on instagram | more info

————————————————————————–

I had the pleasure of sewing two dresses for Bonnie’s Quilt Market Booth in May. I really love the  subtle colors in the Pink Leaves color way and the dramatic colors in the Herb Garland color way. It totally fits my personality.  sometimes I am very tranquil while other times I am a ball of energy.

The first was sewn with:

Sweetly Sings Glimmer, Blossom Drift Flushed and Winnow Frock Charmed

In contrast, the second dress is sewn with more dramatic colors and prints: Swanlings Bevy Nightfall, Blossom Drift Roseate  and Nestling Gathering.

-I have also sewn with Hello Ollie in other projects. My last two patterns, Pepper and Mackenzie where sewn with this collection. I feel pretty lucky to have beautiful fabric to help bring my patterns, with Violette Fields Thread, to life!

Pepper dress is sewn with:  Swanlings Bevy Nightfall and Blossom Drift Roseate

April Rhodes, OBSERVER Fabric Blog Tour

Finally… I have been planning the photoshoot for the Observer Blog Tour for 2 months and I am so excited to share it TODAY!!! Our family visited this National Park earlier in the summer and I knew it was the perfect location!  I am pretty excited to share but before I do lets talk OBSERVER!!!!

newneweh4a2440

April Rhodes’ has done it again! Every single collection is earthy perfection! I have always been attracted to her natural organic esthetic in her fabric collections and the Observer collection is no different. This is April’s 4th collection with Art Gallery Fabrics and each is just as BEAUTIFUL as the one before.

qtct9499

The collection has navy blues, mustards, metallic and calm gray/blues. It is a collection that I would use to make clothing projects for myself, for my children and in home décor!!  The color palate is gorgeous beyond my wildest dreams!  I mean look at the metallic texture!!! Swoooon!!!!

observer-swatches

Besides Cotton the collection offers Knit, Voile and Canvas options to pick from in selected prints.. I choose the YUMMY Voile in Indigo Window in Crystal for the main portion of the Maxi Dress below…

newneweh4a2423

For the second dress I used this AMAZING calm blue/gray print called, Overshot Haze. For the main portion and for the collar I used, Speck Bronze. Ooooh, BRONZE!
