What I have been up to…

Sewing, Fabric and Patterns I have used so far in 2021.

It’s been a hot minute since I have blogged!! I am usually just posting on IG or posting on Minerva’s site. So what have I been up to? Well, mainly sewing, gardening and home schooling.

This won’t be a long post just wanted to pop in here and share a few of my favorite makes this year…

Dress details: McCall’s M7947 made with Nani iro Linen from Minerva

Added Delia Creates Carrie cardigan to the McCall’s dress.

Marlo sweater from True Bias made with Cotton Cable Knit in Rose Pink from Minerva.

Rya Coat from Fibremood, made with Wool from Metermeter.

Wiksten Shift Dress made with Jessica Swift Pollinator Collection.

Top details : True Bias Nikko top made with knit from Style Makers (Color: Sand). Jeans details: Dawn Jeans by Megan Nielsen.

Last but not least… gardening! HA, yes gardening. I started pre-seeding for all my Summer plants. Do you have plans for summer gardening?

Until next time,

Everlasting Blog Tour

Good morning friends! Today is my stop on the Everlasting Blog Tour by my sweet friend Sharon Holland! I have been a HUGE fan and supporter of Sharon for the last few years. She has become someone I talk with often, sharing my ups and downs. I truly love her and her beautiful designs!!

Everlasting was created by Sharon as a tribute to her daughter’s wedding. The collection truly embodies a romantic, summery wedding.

This is Sharons 7th collection with Art Gallery Fabrics.

Being an apparel sewist I was very drawn to the collection as I felt they translated well to clothing as well as quilting. The first time I saw the collection I immediately pictured dresses and skirts on mannequins in Anthropology and boy do I LOVE Anthropology!!! So I was VERY excited to get sewing with Everlasting! Especially the Cherished Wishes and Flower Keeper prints. Ok, so what did I make? Actually the question is what did I not make with?!! So far I have made a maxi skirt, Cami, 3 girls dresses and 1 teen summer top. Have a look at these beauties… 🙂

Lugu Blog Tour

Hello friends! Today is my stop on Jessica Swift’s Lugu Blog Tour! This is her 3rdcollection since becoming a designer with Art Gallery Fabrics.   Just like her other collections, this one is bright, vibrant, playful and I love how she always incorporates animals into her designs.

I had already made the Owl Stuffie using the Lugu Collection for Art Gallery Fabrics Lugu Look-book. The pattern I used was the Violette Field Threads pattern, Olive.  When this opportunity for the blog tour came up, I immediately thought of making a matching dress for a little girl. I mean how sweet is it to have a matching dress to go with a new stuffie.

The Owl was inspired by her Sova Nightlight print and the ruffle around the Owl’s neck was inspired by the Sleep Tight print.

For the dress and Owl Stuffie skirt I use the Odyssey Aurora print. The ruffle is made with Lumina Dawn and the wings and legs are made with Konstelacijja Maagia.

I used my new pattern, with Violette Field Threads, Spencer to create the Lugu dress. I made the sleeveless version and kept to the original pattern with only one added detail; lace trim at the hemline.

Lace Trim can be found at Hobby Lobby.

Since my daughter is now at the ripe old age of 13, I have to let her pick the fabric and what pattern I am going to use. I was not surprised when she picked Tigris Indigo. She is a HUGE animal lover and has always been drawn to animal designs and prints. I was excited as well as those are some of my favorite colors on her. The beautiful deep but bright blue enhances her eye color and the red accents her rosy cheeks and lips.

aaaaaEH4A3064.jpg

aaaaEH4A3152.jpg

I currently have a thing for black and white photos so I took my favorite pic and editing it to black and white. While it does not show the fabric details I think it portrays more emotion.

aaaaaEH4A3152

I was working on my 1001 pattern (kidding) for Violette Field Threads, Olive, so naturally, I used it to make one for the blog tour. I did the top length since this teen prefers them over dresses.

Wonderful Things Blog Tour- Going Home To Roost

WOT-blog-tour

The gentle whispers of joy fill our minds as positive affirmations bring inspiration and encouragement. Wonderful things inspires to delight with happy hues and delicate prints to uplift your spirits.

Hello All,

Welcome to the Wonderful Things Blog tour. Bonnie from Going Home to Roost created the Wonderful Things with the same beauty that she brings to all of her collections with Art Gallery Fabric. This collection has two color ways, Honest Whispers and Honeyed Wonders.

Honest Whispers is soft and subtle pastels while Honeyed Wonders is Bold and Bright.

aanewEH4A3520

My Grandmother is my Wonderful Thing (my favorite person). She is the Matriarch of our family and my last Grandparent alive. She is 92 years and only stopped working 2 years ago! She is delicate yet strong, strong minded yet compassionate, independent yet family focused. I would be lucky if I was half as amazing as she is. She is well know in our family for her amazing food. One of my favorite dished she makes is Menudo. I know, not everyone has a stomach for that dish. LOL

A couple of weeks ago she fell and cracked her femur.  Wait let me back up, She fell on a Friday did not tell anyone until the next day, because she did not want to disturb them. She only took some pain medicine and laid down. However the next day she could not walk. That is so her! Too strong for her own good! She is currently at a rehab facility and the Docs, Nurses and Physical Therapist are all blown away by her progress and determination to get back on her feet. They wanted to send her home last week because she is a rock star and already doing very well but the Doc requested one more X-ray and discovered, what they had previously thought was a cracked femur was actually a full break in the femur head. She is strong and determined to get back home and I am sure she will by this week.  I have always looked up to my Grandmother but more and more as I have gotten older I have prayed to be just like her. She raised 5 children, worked full time and cared for my Grandfather during his medical battles. She is also the oldest of 10 siblings which she also helped to raise. She is intertwined in every holiday tradition I have known since I was born and also in my kids lives. I could not be more proud of my family as well. I have watched them all rally around her. Cousins, Aunts, and Uncles have flown in for out of town to gather around her and support her healing.  Truly blessed to be apart of this wonderful family. Such a Wonderful Thing!

Hello All!!

Hope you are having an amazing week!! What a beautiful last 2 weeks of Bountiful creations!

The incredibly sweet and talented Sharon Holland released Bountiful, with Art Gallery Fabric, in March. Bountiful is full of nature inspired Florals and Geometric shapes. She brings a mix of soft corals, greens, blues and pink, creating a serene palette. Sue from Needle in a Fabric Stash and I teamed up for the last day of the tour. She made not 1, not 2 but 3 Bountiful Bags!! Check out her blog for all the low down on the beautiful bags she stitched up. I feel pretty lucky to be able to team up with her. She is a talented seamstress and a sweet friend (that just happens to own a fabric shop in town)!!

AANEWEH4A5759

So let’s chat really quickly on how I decided what project I would make for the Blog Tour. It all started with Sharon and Maureen’s Sewcial Bee Sample, they inspired me to make my first Quilt Block. Then I got a big head (blahahahaha) and thought hmmm, let take that Quilt Block and make a dress with it.

AAANEWEH4A6431

I choose their Flying Geese Block.  I will say though, next time I would place the flying geese straight down the middle of the bodice instead of down the sides like it is now.  I am a bit obsessed with the back and I do feel this is a very special dress. True labor of love!!!

Katarina Roccella- Blithe Blog Tour

aneweh4a9419How exciting and amazing have all of these creations been so far on the Blithe Blog Tour, right??!!! I am impressed and inspired by each one. One of these days I am going to let go of my fear of quilting and MAKE A QUILT! I don’t know how many times I hear from Quilters how scared they are to sew an article of clothing. I guess we all have our vices??
Anyways, today is mine and my sewing bestie Cassie’s day to share our creations for the Blithe Blog Tour!

Katarina has done it again (and again and again and again with Art Gallery Fabric)! She has such a passion and an eye for detail it is hard not to fall in love with each collection she releases. To me, Blithe encompass Natures’ beauty in Fall and Winter time. I can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve for your next collection!!

For the Blog Tour Cassie and I happen to be up in Big Bear at the same time so we decided what better place to do a photoshoot. Don’t worry kids, you can brave 30 degree weather for your Mothers crazy ideas. LOL
I prepped my daughter by showing her photos of Joyfolie models in the snow. I think it actually helped. Hehehehe #momfail

For the dress I used the Magnolia Dress from Little Lizard King. I used the knit in Bird Songs Sun.

Runway Skirt Blog Tour-Skirt Fixation

Hello Friday,

It is a super busy time of year so thank you for taking a moment to stop by!

Today is my day to share with you the Runway Skirt Pattern that Skirt Fixation just released!

Image Map

Oh and guess what?!!?? It is on SALE from now until the 10th!  And On top of an already great sale, you can sign up for a fab giveaway for 1 Runway Skirt Pattern and a $25 Urban Sew gift card.  See the Rafflecoptor link at end of the post.

aneweh4a6091-copy

The Runway Skirt features 3 skirt lengths; knee, midi and maxi. It really is such a comfortable skirt, thanks to the knit.  Also very stylish, thanks to the elegant godets. I had a goal during my “break” to make a few items for myself.  So far I have found that I suck at goals and I don’t know how to “take a break”!  I am really really really  grateful Aubrey asked me to join her blog tour so I could at least make one item for myself before the end of the year! LOL

aneweh4a6133

The pattern also comes in a large size range, 00-24, and I am wearing a size 2.  Sadly, I am not blessed with curves but I love the shape of the skirt and the godets which add flare and shape to my body. Wahoo!!! See more details on the pattern HERE.

aneweh4a6104

I used Art Gallery Fabric and Katarina Roccella Lavish Knit for the main body of the skirt and Art Gallery Denim for the godets. The pattern does call for a lighter weight fabric for the godet but I really wanted to add the denim so don’t tell on me ok! Hahahaha!

aneweh4a6087-copy

Aubrey did a wonderful job on the Runway Skirt tutorial and I can’t believe it is her first pattern! It is very well written and illustrated and so easy to follow. I would say if you are a confident beginner seamstress you can tackle this pattern!

aneweh4a6151

Here is your chance to win 1 Runway Skirt Pattern and $25 Urban Sew gift card and to see more inspiration check out Skirt Fixation BLOG!

Pat Bravo’s Heartland Blog Tour

Happy Friday and welcome to my stop on Pat Bravo’s Heartland Blog Tour. I am excited to share with you how I got to interpret Pat’s new collection. Heartland released in September and this will be her ? collection for Art Gallery Fabric.

heartland-tour-blog-banner

Yesterday , Mariana Diaz shared her Heartland creation and on today along with me,  Elina Temmes will be sharing her project! Be sure to check out these beautiful projects to  get some inspiration!

aneweh4a9256

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Heartland is inspired by the beauty of Scandinavia. I have to admit I had to sit and brain storm for a while and look to Pintrest for some Scandinavian inspiration. Other then Ikea (I know, very sad!) I did not know a ton about the Scandinavian style.  Pat has a great inspiration page on Pintrest.  So using that along with other research, I found some themes that come though loud and clear.  It is simple, fresh and minimalist.  Oh, and their beautiful landscapes! So for my photos I brought in the color red, landscapes, clean simple lines and of course I had to style my daughter’s hair up in braids. Too bad she does not have super blond hair, maybe a good dye job is in order. Just kidding! Hahahaha!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

aneweh4a9254

For my project I used:

Blomma Garden Pastiche in Voile and Unn Cross Pine in Cotton for the bodice. I have been obsessed with Voile lately! It is dreamy the way it moves and it is quite easy to sew with.

aneweh4a9115-copy

The dress pattern was made using the Emily pattern by Violette Field Threads.

aneweh4a9019-copy

See how the Voile has so much body and movement! Swoosh!!!

Hello Ollie by Going Home to Roost

Well hello , Hello Ollie!

hol-logo

Bonnie of Going Home to Roost released her latest collection in August and it is just as beautiful as all her other lines. This time she had done something a little different but so perfectly Bonnie, it is ORGANIC! This is Art Gallery Fabric’s very first Organic fabric line. How awesome is that!?!!agf-organics

————————————————————————–

Here is a little about Hello Ollie:

Like the delicate trace left by a Swan’s dance on the water, this collection illustrates the image of spending an afternoon in the meadow by the lake. Named after Bonnie’s daughter, Ollie, sweetness is brought to life with dabbling swans, feathered fellows and garden blooms.

————————————————————————–

I had the pleasure of sewing two dresses for Bonnie’s Quilt Market Booth in May. I really love the  subtle colors in the Pink Leaves color way and the dramatic colors in the Herb Garland color way. It totally fits my personality.  sometimes I am very tranquil while other times I am a ball of energy.

The first was sewn with:

Sweetly Sings Glimmer, Blossom Drift Flushed and Winnow Frock Charmed

In contrast, the second dress is sewn with more dramatic colors and prints: Swanlings Bevy Nightfall, Blossom Drift Roseate  and Nestling Gathering.

-I have also sewn with Hello Ollie in other projects. My last two patterns, Pepper and Mackenzie where sewn with this collection. I feel pretty lucky to have beautiful fabric to help bring my patterns, with Violette Fields Thread, to life!

Pepper dress is sewn with:  Swanlings Bevy Nightfall and Blossom Drift Roseate
