Style Maker Fabrics Spring Blog Tour 2020!

Hi!!

Wow. It’s been awhile since I have blogged so I am very thrilled to be blogging about Style Makers Fabric Spring Tour today!

Floral

Spring is here!! Well here in SoCal Spring arrived a month ago. Flowers are blooming and the weather has been in the 70’s and 80’s (except for the day I took pics of course, it was pouring rain). So when Michelle asked if I would like to participate in the Spring tour I was more than willing to get started on my Spring Wardrobe.  Of course, the hard part was deciding which fabric to go with because there were several that I wanted. She also has many delicate Swiss Dots and Eyelet fabrics in the prettiest Spring colors, that are to die for! I decided to pick this beautiful blue (think Chambray), white and black floral shirting fabric to pair with McCall’s M8036 (Sasha).

Let me first start off chatting about the fabric. It is a light to medium weight fabric with a moderate drape which is typical for a shirting fabric. I washed it on delicate/cold cycle prior to cutting and I experienced the typical amount of shrinkage one would expect for a cotton fabric. The background has a Chambray look and goes right along with the Pantone color of the year, Classic Blue. I am thrilled to add more garments that are predominantly blue.

Next up, let’s chat about the Sasha dress. This is my first McCall’s dress in about 5 years! I was so impressed with their new Spring patterns I was ready to jump back in and try again. Now, I have always had a hard time figuring out my sizing which is kind of the reason why I stopped sewing with their patterns. I did sew a muslin of the bodice prior to cutting out the delicious fabric. The muslin was pretty close to the right fit but still needed some small changes to the bodice. I have a 33 ½” bust but usually always size up to 34” because I feel I have a slightly broad back. I choose to make a size 12 however after making the muslin I modified sewing the bodice along the side seams. I started out sewing at the armhole raw edge with a 1” seam allowance and then graded out to a ½” SA at the bottom waistline raw edge (normal SA is 5/8″).  The back bodice was a perfect fit across the shoulder blades on me.

I did some additional hacks to the pattern to make it uniquely me! First off, I shortened the skirt pattern pieced by 1” and then hemmed the skirt with a 2” SA instead of 1 ¼”. I really did not want the dress to be too long on my legs.

The last modification I did was to switch out the original sleeve with the sleeve from the Brynn pattern, M8035. The sleeve has a smaller sleeve cap yet is still billowy. To duplicate the length of the original sleeve, I shortened the new sleeve pattern piece 5”.  I kept the sleeve band pattern piece from the original sleeve. So overall had a similar feel but the sleeve cap is not as full.

I want thank Michelle for asking me to join the Style Maker Fabric Blog Tour!!! I absolutely love the fabric and look forward to making more Spring items with the fabric I bought from the shop. Oh and guess what??? They are doing a special US shipping deal, only $5!!

Be sure to follow along with all the makers by checking out Style Maker Fabric Instagram Page each day!!

Until next time!

Boardwalk Delight Fabric Blog Tour

BWD 8

We started off and ended our summer with Dana’s, from MADE, first fabric collection with Art Gallery Fabrics. We had a photoshoot to kick off the summer for the Boardwalk Delight lookbook and now bring the summer to a close by blogging and sharing even more photos from that great day!! Boardwalk Delight fabric should be the official fabric of summer! Funny story, when I was sewing with this collection for the first time I was starring at the I Scream, You Scream so much I had to take a break and take the kids to get some ice cream! Nothing wrong with that right?

I had the opportunity to spend time with Dana, she is exactly how I envisioned her. She is creative, inspiring, kind heart and energetic!  I have been a HUGE fan of Dana’s blog for years now. It was actually the first blog I ever followed.

For this photo shoot I had the opportunity to collaborate with Cassie from Little Lizard King. Our families have become closer over the last few months so we will cherish these photos for a lifetime.

The Fabric is a combination of Riley Blake (Aqua/White Stripe) and Square Dance in Sweet Voile by Anna Maria Horner. I have been waiting to use this out of print fabric for just the right project. The Voile Fabric swings in the breeze.

Lilygiggle Blog Tour Day 3- Sassafras Skirt and Giveway (giveaway closed)

Hello Beautiful,

IMG_8585

Welcome to LilyGiggle’s Blog tour day 3.  If you haven’t heard already, Beth, the owner of Lily Giggle, reopened her shop about 2 weeks ago.  I’m here today to show you the Sassafras Skirt and also give you a glimpse of a brand new Flutter Sleeve pattern that will be coming out soon.  Sorry, its not out yet ladies, but soon…  Testing will be starting in a couple of weeks and it will be released soon after that.  Hold on ladies, its coming…

IMG_8519
I’ve always been a big fan of LilyGiggle’s work.  The 1st pattern I picked from her was the Rings of Ruffle’s (ROR) Skirt.  Over the years I’ve made plenty of ROR skirts and pants for both my daughter and to sell in my Etsy shop.  Beth has always been such a wonderful person and designer and so easy to communicate with.  Here are some details about the pattern I did for the blog tour.

IMG_8397

Skirt Nitty Gritty:
*Ruffle Skirt
*Elastic waste band
*Sizes 2 – 12
*Above the knee fit
*Made with Knit-Can also be made using recycled t-shirts
*Has a finished measuring chart
*Tips on sewing with knits

IMG_8568

This skirt has a similar look to the Rings of Ruffles pattern, however, Beth has created a simplified ruffle skirt without losing all the pizzaz.  My absolute favorite part of this pattern is how simple Beth has made it place your ruffles using the included pattern pieces and your trusty pattern marker.  You get the big impact ruffle look in a snap without the headache from working that ruffle foot for hours. The Asymmetrical top skirt helps keep all this ruffles contained -hehehehe 🙂 🙂

IMG_8362

When I was putting this outfit together I started by using my favorite knit from April Rhodes Arizona collection by Art Gallery.  The Flutter Sleeve Top fabric is from Wanderlust, which is quickly becoming my go to knit shop.

IMG_8387

This pattern works so well with the Flutter Sleeve Top.  It is now my go to pattern! LOVE!!!  It provides such a big impact with the double ruffled sleeve for such an easy quick sew.  Sew time was only an hour.

IMG_8470

The skirt can easily be used for all seasons.  A summer/spring look with cute sandals or wear it in the fall paired with boots.  The Flutter Shirt will also be offered in a long sleeve version. Yay!!

Hello Beautiful.

I hope everyone is having a great week!

10612640_10202593337860148_2269044378397872552_n

Lately my daughter has been wearing a ton of Rompers. The girl is smart, it makes getting dressed in the morning easier for both her and I ! So while I was wasting time one day on Facebook a post popped up in my news feed of this adorable Romper. I first showed my daughter and she immediately begged me to make it. I crossed my fingers and toes and hope to be one of the lucky ladies to test the Alley Cat Romper by Lil Luxe Collection.  The Owner of Lil Luxe Collection, Jessica, was so easy and wonderful to work with!! In fact, testing went so well, thanks to an already great pattern, she released her newest pattern a week early!!! She currently has 4 patterns for sale so be sure to check the others out too!

Nitty Gritty on the Alley Cat Romper Pattern:

*Sizes-18mnth to 8yr

*Print your own size

*Made with Knit

*Ankle length or push the cuff up for a Capri length (my daughter loved the Capri length)

*Low back to make it easy to get on and off

*1.5hrs- 2hrs sewing time

*Relaxed/Baggy fit in the legs-Similar to Harlem Pants

The first Romper I made was all knit, size 8 in the bodice and 7 in the length. The top is made to be snug but not to worry It is comes off easily because of the lower back.

Purple Floral Fabric by Wanderlust and Gray knit Fabric purchased at the LA fabric district

The second Romper I made was a mix of Fabric mediums, Knit and Peach skin. I modified the legs slightly by shortening the cuff for a capri length. Ladies, this pattern is so easy to modify I love it.  Or keep it as the original because either way you will end up with a trendy, professional sewn and adorable romper.

These next two dresses are truly near and dear to my heart. I have been a dancer since I was a child. Even today I’ll crank the tunes and have a dance party with my kids.  I recently made a custom order for an all black version of my very first pink/black Ruffle dress and immediately thought of Swan Lake.  This inspired me to bring back a fresh updated version one of my originals as well as the new variation.

New Pattern- LOL Swing Top by Jennuine Design (and discount)

Hello Beautiful,

IMG_4357 IMG_4384 IMG_4361

Day 5 of the LOL Swing Top Tester Tour

Jennifer from Jennuine Design  has created the most adorable top, LOL Swing Top.  I mean just look at that back. Racerback with ruffles, YUMMY!

I had my fingers and toes crossed that I would be picked as a tester for this fabulous pattern. My daughter has become very picky and rarely wears dresses and skirts anymore so this was the perfect pattern for us.

Nitty Gritty:
*Sizes Newborn to 12
*A-line Design
*Can be made with knit or woven material
*Single Button Closure on woven version
*Racerback
*Top Length
*Bias Tape

As you can see above, the first top I made was in Knit and below is my Woven Version. I made a size 7 for Miss. T and after a few tweaks in testing it fit like a glove. The Woven Version has a single button closure and the Knit version slips easily over a child’s head. Its a great pattern with easy to follow instruction and clear illustrations.

IMG_6591I just LOVE the back to this Top, It puts the swing in LOL Swing Top! 🙂

IMG_6582      IMG_6580

The Front has light ruffling at the necklineIMG_6613 I can’t thank Jennifer enough for allowing me to test this pattern. I loved her attention to detail and was thankful for her putting in long nights answering all the questions I had. Because we all know we sew at night after we put the kids to bed.IMG_6643

Besides the LOL Swing Top Pattern, another favorite pattern of mine from Jennuine is the Matinée Dress/Top

For my Test I choose the A-line Dress with no sleeves. I love the silhouette of this dress, however, the next dress I make will be 1 size larger. My daughter had a growth spurt and did not let me know, HA!  One of my favorite parts (I have so many) of the A-Line pattern was I only had to cut ONE pattern piece, yes ladies ONE!  Can I get a High Five?!?  Another favorite in working with this pattern was it showed me how to fully line the dress.  I love it when I can learn something new from a pattern.
