Sarah Jane, Magic Fabric Blog Tour

NEWEH4A2591 copy

Hello, I hope everyone’s summer has been incredible and full of lot of adventures! Don’t you feel like summer is becoming shorter and shorter? Time flies by! My kids head back to school in a week!

Anyways, I got a little side tracked, I am excited to share a new fabric collection from Sarah Jane and Michael Miller.  Way back in March, while traveling back to GA to see family, Sarah’s new line popped up in my Facebook feed right before we boarded the plane. So obviously that meant for the rest of the plane ride all I could think about was all the amazing things I could sew with that fabric and then of course that started my pattern designing juices going!  I envisioned a summer sundress with little girls dancing in the beautiful sun. After the 5 hour plane ride I came up with Lauren, a summery sundress full of pleated details.  Isn’t it incredible how one person’s creativity influences another?!

Sarah has always been a huge inspiration to me since the time I first started sewing! Every time I see Children on Parade fabric, I  have flash backs of sitting at my sewing machine cranking out tons of skirts made with that print. I keep a secret stash of out of print Sarah’s fabric in my fabric closet that I will only pull out for very special projects!  Did you hear they will be bringing back some out of print fabrics??!! How exciting!!

In May I had the honor of sewing TWO dresses for her Spring Quilt Market Booth.

The first one is Paige, which is designed by Bernadette for Violette Field Threads.

AvantGarde Blog Tour

avantgarde-fabrics-blog-tourEH4A1606Hello and Welcome to the AvantGarde Blog  Tour!

Are you ready for a fabric with rich, saturated colors and bold geometric print?  Trust me, you want to say yes! Katarina Roccella has been one of my favorite fabric designers for years now.  I even used her last collection,  Wonderland fabrics, to help promote my first pattern, Genevieve.  Now meet Katarina’s newest collection AvantGarde.  This collection is full of stunningly bold colors that is simply pure visual bliss!

EH4A1705

Hello beautiful colors, am I right or am I right?!?!!!

My Favorite part of this collections is the perfect balance of geometric shapes, deeply  saturated purples and delicate butterfly prints.  They compliment each other so well in any combination giving you the freedom to play and create so many different looks.  Love it!

Looking for more inspiration, check out Art Gallery Fabrics Lookbook HERE

For this Blog Tour I used Violette Field Threads , Loarlie pattern. The modern “V” shaped insert pairs well with the modern print of AvantGarde.

The Fabric is a combination of Riley Blake (Aqua/White Stripe) and Square Dance in Sweet Voile by Anna Maria Horner. I have been waiting to use this out of print fabric for just the right project. The Voile Fabric swings in the breeze.

IMG_1746

My daughter will be wearing it to Church for Easter and My Grandmother’s 90 Birthday Party (or maybe she will be wearing the Annabelle Dress? Hmmmm)

IMG_1866

One of my favorite features of this dress are the panels. You can mix and match fabric to create a unique one of a kind MASTERPIECE! It is so much fun to play around with fabric and this is the perfect dress to do so!!

Violette Field Threads- Annabelle

Hello and Welcome to My Sweet Sunshine Blog!

IMG_0414-2

Annabelle Maxi Dress by Violette Field Threads  is on the Blog today!! Can’t wait to show you what I did with Annabelle. This dress pattern and 10 other patterns are being offered through the BundleUp Sale. If you don’t know what BundleUp is well, you’re missing out on a great deal. Bundle Up is an opportunity to purchase several new patterns at a discounted rate. The more you buy the more you save. To receive the best pricing you need to purchase at least 6 patterns and the more you buy after that the price drops even further.  Whats not to love, right?? Be sure to read all the way to the end to hear details on how you can win a COVERSTITCH and many more prizes!!

I made two dress. One per the instruction and then a shorter version with a single chevron row. When I first printed the pattern and started cutting I asked myself, “Am I making a Quilt or a Dress”?? Well, It’s a Quilt Dress! 🙂

Quick Run Down:
*Size 2T-10
*Size chart- Sizing is comparable to Ready to Wear Sizes
*Elastic Back
*Sweet Heart Neckline
*Maxi Dress
*Cap Sleeve

As soon as I saw the pattern I knew what fabric I wanted to use- Wild and Free by Maurren Cracknell and Art Gallery Fabrics. I love the Bohemian style of the print and the soft touch and flow of Art Gallery fabric. Long maxi dress played off the bohemian design of the Wild and Free Collection.

Here are some pointers to make this dress a quick sew:
*Non Direction prints
*Reading directions first will make the construction of the panels flow faster
*Precious sewing- 1/2″
*Pinning
***Laying out your pieces on the floor to see how it is all going together- This helped me a lot!

A fabric store , Needle in a Fabric Stash, recently opened in my hometown and on my first trip I saw this gorgeous fabric by Michael Miller, Emma’s Garden by Patty Sloniger. So when I decided I wanted to modify the dress I ran back to the shop and picked up a few yards. This fabric screams Spring, right??

Violette Field Threads Vivienne Review and Giveway

IMG_4050

Hello Ladies!!

I am so excited to share with you the NEW and AMAZING Vivienne Misses Pattern by Violette Fields Threads. I first want to say thank you to Violette Field Threads for the wonderful opportunity to sew and review one of your patterns. I have always been a fan of their patterns and Vivienne is no exception!

IMG_4069

Let first start with the nitty gritty:
*Blouse Sizing XXS-XXL
*Skirt sizing 0-16
*Short sleeve top
*Button Down the Back
*Overskirt and Underskirt are separate
*Overskirt closed by 4-5 buttons

IMG_4049 IMG_4042  IMG_4084

Ok, lets get to the fun stuff, YAY!
I made the Blouse with a Cotton Nylon Lace fabric that I have been hoarding from Jo-Ann. I am so into Coral right now so when I saw it I knew it needed to join my secret fabric stash (don’t tell my hubby). For the Overskirt I chose a fabric from the Arizona Collection called Tomahawk Stripe. I love this entire fabric collection from Art Gallery Fabric.  I mean what’s not to love, the colors are amazing and so is the their fabric. So here is the only modiciation I did to the underskirt, I used a premade ruffle fabric that I purchased from Ruffle Fabric, LLC. The fabric is so yummy and it saved me so much time, yahoo! I made the Underskirt per the pattern’s instructions then pinned the ruffle fabric to the skirt. You could of course use only the ruffle fabric as your Underskirt, but I wanted to save what I had for more projects! 😉

Violette Field Threads hit it out of the park with this outfit. Not only is it a well written pattern but you will be looking stylish when you get finished sewing it. It took me less then a day to sew up from start to finish. Don’t be intimidated to sew yourself a Vivienne , VFT does a great job in not only explaining but also visually show you step by step instructions. I chose the XS for the Blouse and Size 2 for the skirt and the fit was right on.
