FibreMood 13: Marion Dress Pattern

FibreMood has released their newest edition, Edition 13 is chock full of great patterns. There was actually too many to choose from that it took me two days to decide! I finally choose to sew the Marion dress because I had the perfect tulle fabric that was in need of a pattern. I also loved the two tiered skirt with the top tier shorter then the bottom. I have made many two tiered skirts but I really love that this top tier is much shorter then the bottom tier. It’s a trend you can find in many RTW stores.

Sadly I have to tell you that the fabric I used was purchased from Blackbird Fabrics awhile ago and they do not carry it anymore. You can check out Mood Fabrics or Etsy for their embroidered tulle. The nice part about working with tulle is it does not fray. So no need the hem!

Overall, kept the pattern as is except for the skirt width and doing an elastic casing on the sleeves. For the top tier I added 3″ to the fold line (so 6″ total) and 4″ to the bottom tier (so 8″ total). I really wanted the skirt to be full especially since I was using such lightweight fabric.

I sewed the size Small which is my typical size. No size modifications.

The back is closed with an hook and eye. Super easy to get on and off and the ease of the bodice is comfortable. I wore a white slip underneath instead of lining the dress.

The Marion Pattern would be great for a confident beginner. The raglan bodice is very easy to construct as well as the skirts. The new skills for a new seamstress would be the waistband and sewing the neckline with bias tape.

If you have any question about Marion, let me know!

Until next time -Alexis

The Fabric is a combination of Riley Blake (Aqua/White Stripe) and Square Dance in Sweet Voile by Anna Maria Horner. I have been waiting to use this out of print fabric for just the right project. The Voile Fabric swings in the breeze.

Few of My Favorite Things Holiday Blog Tour and Giveaway

Hello Beautiful,

IMG_3959

First off I want to thank Amy for allowing me to represent Brownie-Goose in the Few of My Favorite Things Holiday Blog Tour.  Brownie-Goose along with 6 other Pattern designers have teamed up to Share a few favorite patterns along with Giveaways and some discounts.

10408758_10154819744785066_9046724928601397234_n

So I want to start this off with a little story… Something that will make you laugh, I hope!

When I was deciding on what fabric to chose for the blog tour, Amy shared with me her next pattern, Lennon, which is a vintage styled dress or Top. At first I was at a loss as to what fabric to choose.  I looked on Etsy and several of my favorite fabric shops but nothing was just right. One morning I was searching thru my fabric closet for another project when I found this large Red and White Gingham fabric my Mother had passed down to me. Perfect, I don’t have to buy anything and it is vintage! I could not be more happy, or SO I thought! Well, about a week ago I was walking through Walmart to grab a zipper to finish up my Lennon. I had both kids with me which means constant trips to the bathroom. I had to walk down the fabric aisle to get to the restroom and THERE IT WAS! The SAME Red Gingham FABRIC! It suddenly all came back.  It didn’t come from my mom, I had purchased this fabric 5 yrs ago (is that still count as vintage? just kidding) for my daughter’s birthday party. WORST memory ever! My immediate thought was, I can’t tell these ladies that I use Walmart fabric , I will never work again in this town. Should I take it to my grave or should I tell?  Well… Hi. My name is Alexis and I used Walmart Fabric. There I said it! Please don’t stop talking to me :0  . Ok, Ok, it is all said and done and now we can move on…

Since the Fabric is thin I backed it with Heavier Solid white fabric by RJR Fabrics. I serged the Red Gingham and White Solid together before I stitched it up!

The Lennon Pattern is a dress or a top. The dress features a zipper closure- don’t freak out by the zipper, Amy does an amazing job teaching you how to install an invisible zipper. The Top features a button closure. You can make the Lennon in several different substrates like wovens or knit. Per the directions Pleats hold better with heavier weight fabric.

New Pattern- LOL Swing Top by Jennuine Design (and discount)

Hello Beautiful,

IMG_4357 IMG_4384 IMG_4361

Day 5 of the LOL Swing Top Tester Tour

Jennifer from Jennuine Design  has created the most adorable top, LOL Swing Top.  I mean just look at that back. Racerback with ruffles, YUMMY!

I had my fingers and toes crossed that I would be picked as a tester for this fabulous pattern. My daughter has become very picky and rarely wears dresses and skirts anymore so this was the perfect pattern for us.

Nitty Gritty:
*Sizes Newborn to 12
*A-line Design
*Can be made with knit or woven material
*Single Button Closure on woven version
*Racerback
*Top Length
*Bias Tape

As you can see above, the first top I made was in Knit and below is my Woven Version. I made a size 7 for Miss. T and after a few tweaks in testing it fit like a glove. The Woven Version has a single button closure and the Knit version slips easily over a child’s head. Its a great pattern with easy to follow instruction and clear illustrations.

IMG_6591I just LOVE the back to this Top, It puts the swing in LOL Swing Top! 🙂

IMG_6582      IMG_6580

The Front has light ruffling at the necklineIMG_6613 I can’t thank Jennifer enough for allowing me to test this pattern. I loved her attention to detail and was thankful for her putting in long nights answering all the questions I had. Because we all know we sew at night after we put the kids to bed.IMG_6643

Besides the LOL Swing Top Pattern, another favorite pattern of mine from Jennuine is the Matinée Dress/Top

Jennifer is offering a 20% discount on her new pattern for one week (ends August 7th)
